It's all come down to this! We've been enjoying watching the BBC2 jewellery talent show ‘All That Glitters’, following a group of talented jewellers completing a variety of weekly jewellery challenges. This week, it was the Grand Final and the winner was revealed.
A Statement Necklace
In the final challenge, only three jewellers remained; Emma, Piers and Jack. The culmination of the series was to create a dramatic statement necklace, featuring a bright semi-precious garnet.
Statement necklaces are a fun way to accessorise an outfit and create a dramatic look. In this challenge, the jewellers had to create a statement necklace to be worn with a red deep v-neck jumpsuit, by none other than Shirley Ballas, head judge on Strictly Come Dancing. The necklace had to work with the neckline of the outift, as well as suiting the personality of the wearer.
Garnets are dark, deep red gemstones known for their vibrant colour and fire. Garnet is also the birthstone for January.
Our Favourite Designs
Piers' necklace was our stand-out favourite - an elegant interpretation of an art-nouveau style, with a single large garnet hanging from a flowing pendant. It was beautiful and delicately elegant.
It was no surprise to us when Piers was named the winner - his jewellery had clearly been on exceptional quality throughout the challenges, and his designs were always well thought out and beautiful to look at.
Get The Look
If you love the look of deep red garnet gemstones, then take a look at our Radiance collection, featuring emerald-cut garnet stones in pendant, ring and earrings.
This pretty pendant features a rich dark red baguette-cut garnet gemstone set in yellow gold vermeil.
For a huge variety of larger, statement necklaces take a look at our necklace collection. If you're looking for a statement necklace featuring colourful gemstones then the Avalon collection is perfect.
Five striking rose quartz stones are set in rose gold vermeil and link together to form this stunning necklace. The stones are suspended from two curved bars to create a piece with the look of a solid collar but the flexibilty and comfort of a linked necklace.
If you liked the style of Piers' elegant design then you might like this art-nouveau necklace in sterling silver, embellished with a freshwater pearl.
A ribbon of polished sterling silver crosses over a silver curve set with cubic zirconia. An oval freshwater pearl hangs freely from the centre of the necklace, dangling prettily as the wearer moves.
We have loved seeing jewellery design and the skill of handmade jewellery on our television screens. We hope you did too, and have been able to appreciate and understand the varied techniques and skills which go into the creation of each piece of jewellery.
