    Heart of Yorkshire
    History of the Heart

Constructed nearly seven hundred years ago in York Minster, the Great West Window is a triumph of Medieval stained glass and stonework tracery. We don't know what the fourteenth century artists had in mind when they designed the heart shaped centrepiece of the grand window, but we can talk about the modern craze for romance to be cemented underneath the great window.

A modern legend was first promoted on International Kissing Day, when Gillian Cruddas, chief executive of Visit York said: “The legend surrounding the beautiful Heart of Yorkshire window seems to have captured everyone’s imagination."

    The Legend

A local tradition asserts that a couple who kiss under the Heart of Yorkshire will stay together forever. Many couples have travelled to York to participate in the tradition, and subsequently it has become the number one location for grand proposals!

    The Jewellery

Having opened our York store, from which the west wing of the Minster is visible, we became intrigued by the window and the legend, and resolved to create a jewellery collection that would allow visitors to partake of a really unique and delightful memory of their visit. You can view the collection online here.

    Around the World

Since launching the collection, we have been inundated with orders from the great Yorkshire diaspora with orders coming in from all over the United Kingdom as well as Australia, Canada and the United States.

    In the Minster

Our friends at York Minster have been very supportive of this project and we are proud to have the full collection stocked in the York Minster Retail Shop.

    New for 2019

This year we have introduced the heart in nine carat gold responding to the demand for the premium precious metal.
