How to Care for your Sterling Silver Jewellery

So that you can enjoy wearing your sterling silver Azendi pieces for years to come we recommend a few simple steps to look after your precious jewellery.

    What is Tarnish?

Tarnish is a surface reaction between sterling silver and the oxygen in the air, causing your silver jewellery to dull over time. Azendi sterling silver jewellery is either treated with a rhodium finishing or a protective anti-tarnish coating to prevent the build up of tarnish, but there are also a few simple steps that you can take to prevent tarnish and keep your jewellery looking its best.

    Where to Store Your Jewellery

The high polish of your silver can become dull and scuffed if it isn't stored correctly. To minimise scratches when you are not wearing your jewellery we always recommend storing your silver jewellery in a cloth pouch or jewellery box. Storing in a box also keeps your sterling silver jewellery away from direct sunlight, which will reduce the risk of tarnishing.

    Avoid Chemicals

Avoid exposing your jewellery to chlorinated water as this can severely damage your silver jewellery. We therefore always recommend removing your jewellery before swimming, or enjoying a spa or steam room. You should also remove any rings and bracelets before using household cleaning products, or wear rubber gloves to cover your jewellery when cleaning.

In the case of cosmetics and perfumes, you also want to avoid getting these on your jewellery. The best thing to do is put any creams and perfumes on first, and allow them to dry, before then putting on your jewellery.

    How to Clean Sterling Silver

To maintain the shine of your silver jewellery we recommend occasional cleaning with a soft microfibre cloth to remove any tarnish build-up. Please do not use chemical silver polish or silver dip on your jewellery as these harsh products simply strip off the top layer of silver and damage your jewellery.
