The word Topaz comes from the Ancient Sanskrit word Tapas, meaning fire. Heating Topaz can increase the natural colour of the stone. Some Topaz can alter in colour when simply placed in direct sunlight. Blue Topaz, however, is the most stable colour and will not alter unless extreme heat is applied to it. Topaz has many historical references. It is said to adorn the priestly breastplate of Aaron, brother of Moses and in Ancient Egypt, Topaz represented the symbol of Ra, the Sun god, who was the giver of life. Wearing Topaz is supposed to increase your spiritual potential and creativity as well as making you wiser and wealthier. Topaz is the birth stone for November and represents the 16th anniversary of marriage.
