Birthstone - Garnet
In tradition, certain gems are associated with different months of the year and are thought lucky for people who are born under their power. This probably goes back to the ancient belief that gems came from the heavens. The tradition of wearing birthstone jewellery started in 18th century Poland and has now spread worldwide.

Birthday Flower - Snowdrop
Every month of the year has a flower which symbolises birth, a tradition which dates right back to the Roman Empire, and the Snowdrop is the flower for those born in January. The snowdrop symbolises purity and hope. The 'Language of Flowers' developed during the Victorian era. As the Victorians were strongly restricted by the rules of etiquette, the 'Language of Flowers' evolved as a means of communication to send coded message which allowed individuals to express feelings which could not otherwise be spoken.
